# Use Sofie with Slack

> Link your Slack account, chat with Sofie, research conversations, and review messages before sending them as you.

The Slack integration lets you message Sofie directly or mention **@Sofie** in a channel. After you link and authorize your account, you can also ask Sofie to research Slack conversations and prepare messages to send as you.

Your administrator must [connect your Slack workspace](/admin/integrations/slack) first. Slack must be enabled for your Sofie deployment.

## Link your account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Message Sofie privately">
    Open a direct message with **Sofie** in Slack and send a message. Sofie sends you a link to connect your Slack identity to your Sofie account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the account link">
    Open the link within 15 minutes. Sign in to Sofie if prompted. Check the Slack workspace, Slack identity, and Sofie account shown on the page.

    Click **Link this Slack account** only if both accounts belong to you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Authorize Slack access">
    Continue to Slack and review the requested permissions. Complete the authorization so Sofie can research conversations you can access and send messages as you after approval.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Return to Slack">
    Send your request again. You can check the connection on Sofie's **Integrations** page under **Messaging accounts**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Linking your Sofie identity and authorizing Slack access are separate steps. If Sofie asks you to **Finish connecting Slack to Sofie**, follow that link to complete authorization.
</Note>

## Chat with Sofie

Use a direct message for personal work. To work in a shared channel, add Sofie to the channel and mention **@Sofie** with your request.

```text theme={null}
@Sofie Draft an agenda for the validation review using these open questions.
```

Once Sofie responds, continue in the same thread. Follow-up replies in that thread do not need another mention. Start a new channel conversation with **@Sofie**.

Each participant must link their own Sofie account before asking Sofie to act for them. An unlinked participant is directed to a private message to finish linking.

<Warning>
  People in the channel can read Sofie's replies and any draft previews posted there. Use a direct message for sensitive work. Sharing a Sofie link does not give channel members access to its contents; Sofie permissions still apply.
</Warning>

## Research Slack conversations

Ask Sofie in a direct message or in Sofie web chat to search conversations you can access. Include the Slack workspace name if you have more than one connected workspace.

You can ask Sofie to find messages, inspect threads or recent channel history, find files, and identify commitments. Ask for links to the original messages so you can review the evidence.

```text theme={null}
Find the decisions about the PPQ sampling plan in #validation this week. Link each decision to its Slack message and list unresolved questions.
```

```text theme={null}
Find the things I said I would do tomorrow. Include the conversation links and flag any unclear deadlines.
```

In a shared Slack channel, Sofie's Slack research is restricted to that channel. Move to a direct message for research across other conversations, including private conversations you have authorized.

## Work with files

Attach a supported file to your message and explain what you want Sofie to do. You can also ask Sofie to find and read a file shared in Slack.

```text theme={null}
Read the sampling-plan spreadsheet shared in #validation yesterday. Summarize the open questions and link the source.
```

Files Sofie retrieves are copied into Sofie for use in the conversation. Ask explicitly if you want to add a file to a shared [Workspace](/workspaces/workspace-knowledge).

For attachments sent with a message, use no more than 10 files and 75 MB total. Individual limits are 50 MB for documents, 10 MB for images, and 25 MB for supported audio or video. If Sofie cannot process an attachment, check the reason in its reply. Try a smaller file or continue in Sofie web chat.

## Send a message as you

Sofie can prepare a Slack message using your connected Slack identity. Include the destination and the exact purpose of the message.

```text theme={null}
Prepare a message to #validation with these three open questions. Show me the exact text before sending it as me.
```

When you make the request in Slack:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Review the preview">
    Sofie posts an approval card in the conversation where you made the request. Check the destination, message text, and any thread context.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve or cancel">
    Click **Approve & send** to send the exact message as you. Click **Cancel** to stop the send. Only the person who requested the message can approve it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the result">
    Look for the send confirmation. Approval requests expire after 15 minutes. If a request expires, ask Sofie to prepare it again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

When you request a send from Sofie web chat, review and approve the message in Sofie. Administrator permissions for automated bot posts do not replace approval for messages sent as you.

<Tip>
  If Sofie cannot confirm delivery, check the Slack destination before retrying. The message may already have been sent.
</Tip>

## Continue work in Sofie

Open the links Sofie provides to review or edit a CoDraft, CoSheet, Surface, or generated file. If an action needs a Sofie web approval or editor interaction, follow the conversation link and continue there.

Review answers, source messages, and generated files before using them in controlled processes.

## Manage your connection

On Sofie's **Integrations** page, find **Slack** under **Messaging accounts**.

* If the card shows **Reconnect required**, click **Reconnect Slack** and review the permissions again.
* Click **Disconnect** to remove your personal connection. The organization installation stays available to other users.
* To connect again, send Sofie a new direct message and complete the linking and authorization steps.
